The Waiting Love
_______By Aranna Hasan Delwar
By the banks of that river, on the marketplace road,
I stood alone for many days,
The torment of waiting, how much it pains,
Only those who wait know.
You sent several letters saying you'll return from Dhaka,
Those letters, I read them repeatedly,
And on the dates of those letters, like the riverbank,
I stood on the marketplace road until the person returned.
Every time, I return with a heavy heart,
Waiting for yet another letter...
A new date in each new letter,
Along with many new forgotten words.
Whenever I think I won't wait for you anymore,
That's when I forget everything in your emotional words.
One day I received a new letter from you,
There was no date of your return in that letter,
It contained stories of your new life,
You have tied the knot with some enchanting woman in the city,
It's like I forget you, stop waiting.
My waiting will never end,
If only you could easily say
That it would be so easy for me,
Then long ago, I would have
Stopped waiting for you.
Your letters, the riverbank, that marketplace road,
I would have left them all behind.
